Carnival
Parades

Under the general heading of 'Carnivals' can be grouped such spectacles as Float Parades, Field days, Orchestral concerts and Rock and Jazz festivals. Decorative and colourful, Float parades are a summer feature in both the towns of Mildenhall and Newmarket, followed by sporting and other general entertainments at their leisure grounds. ©

Although Carnivals are usually low key events, Forest Heath Raynet, operating on behalf of the Medical user service, require a number of personnel to provide cover for the Parades themselves, an attendant Ambulance and for the First Aid units dispersed around the fields. Innocuous as these fun parades may seem, casualties have been sustained by children falling off floats, others by running into the road to retrieve flowers etc., and, of course, accidents occurring during the activities on the fields themselves.

Open air Music Festivals, which, though usually in a more static environment, bring another kind of risk; often with dense crowds, sometimes with boisterous elements, these gatherings bring the probability of disturbances with possible injuries. Raynet provides links which enable the user service to mount a rapid response to an incident, and our presence is considered necessary and welcome by them and by the organisers.

During a recent Yuletide, the group was requested by the Suffolk Constabulary to provide a network of links to assist in monitoring crowd movement in the centre of Newmarket which had been closed to traffic to enable freedom in the special shopping night just before Christmas.©
